I was delighted to be co-organsing 2026 Doors Open Day

We welcomed 60-70 visitors from around Edinburgh who were interested in finding out about the fascinating history of Granton's industrial past. For the first time, we displayed our 15 new heritage boards and Edinburgh College of Art continued with their community consultation around the European funded project entitled Cultural Heritage in the Metropolitan Peripheries (CUMET). This was a great experience for the Architecture students who were involved. There was lots of discussion and in-depth searching of our community Granton Archive Project (GAP). Twenty plus visitors took part in a nature/heritage walk in the gorgeous sunshine. I am pleased to say that more plans are in the pipeline as a result of this successful networking day.

review 2024

2024 alas has seen very little artistic activity for various reasons.

Having finally stepped down as a trustee of granton:hub in December, I hope I will have more time to focus on my own work.

All the follwing works came about during the Wednesday lunchtime sessions at 'Room for Art' WHALE Arts. A few images are missing but the lino cutting will be revisited this year.

Exhibition in October 2022 - Re:Living exhibition at granton:hub (submission of work)

The focus of this work is a bouquet of roses. For many years now, I have received roses. Many women receive flowers, it is considered a tradition, customary, an occasion for every day. But each time I get a bouquet, a sense of sadness and momentary reflection comes over me. Roses have come for delightful and happy occasions, but also extremely sad and devastating ones. And at times, these moments were almost experienced simultaneously.  As years go by, roses come and go. Roses blend our lives.

In April this year, I photographically captured roses that, to me, offered a sense of eternity, beauty, but also fragility, an ephemeral presence. The roses lasted many days, more so than on any other occasion. And as they started to wither,  their colour became even more beautiful. And the roses reminded me of my infant son and mum, both gone now, many years in-between. I think of them every day and wished to record that moment. Coloured petals, fading. Fragile, a light burning.
